It's summertime! This is David, during the summer he and his friends set up a waterslide in the backyard and like to slide down it. This is a good way for David and his friends to keep cool when the days are very warm.
During the summer when the ground is warm and moist is when my roots grow further into the ground. This helps my branches and leaves stay healthy and strong.
Sometimes during the summer there is a lot of rain that keeps the ground wet, but other summers we have a drought which is when we don't have a lot of rain and the ground gets very dry. This makes it hard to grow. The Jones family will give me extra water and nutrients to keep me healthy and strong.
It is usually during the summer when I get another ring. This means I have had another year of adventures and the trunk of my tree is increasing in diameter. Usually you cannot see all my rings because they are on the inside of my trunk. The rings tell me how old I am.
Here is a picture from the inside of a different tree - do you see all the rings. There are almost too many to count. Each ring represents one year of a tree's life.
